After a string of matches without recording a win in cup competitions, Sunderland Football Club returns to league play against Coventry City. This is the competition, for most fans, that has the most importance. It is their only route back to the Championship, and therefore, the Premier League.

With the team performing so poorly against lesser opposition in knockout football, supporters are naturally nervous about the prospects of heading back into the league. They have little expectation when it comes to new manager Phil Parkinson and aren’t holding their breath for a result. One fan even thinks Sunderland would find a way of getting knocked out of the League if there was one.

Some fans just want to see a shot on target. In the last match versus Gillingham, Sunderland failed to test the opposition goalkeeper in 120 minutes of football.

What do we think?

It is hard to get out of a rut when you are losing football games constantly. But Sunderland fans aren’t taking any more excuses. And when it comes to Sunderland owner Stewart Donald, he might be running out of patience as well.
