This week, Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson assured fans that the club had no plans to sell key players for profit during the January transfer window (via a press conference). This announcement will come as great news to supporters who hope to see their club lift a 55th league title at the end of the season.

But not only does this improve, or maintain, Steven Gerrard’s ability to challenge in the league, in Europe and in domestic cup competitions, it could also be a brilliant long term tactic financially. The team is on a brilliant run of form at the moment. In almost every position Rangers have players performing exceptionally well (WhoScored.com).

Alfredo Morelos is a player with numerous rumours surrounding his future (The Scottish Sun). But if clubs in the top-flight of England are interested in him now, imagine how much they would be willing to pay if he stayed and won the league in Scotland. The Colombian’s transfer value will only continue to grow should he continue to score. And looking at his current goal-scoring rate, he isn’t slowing down anytime soon. The player has nine goals in his last nine games for Rangers (transfermarkt.co.uk).

And of course, Morelos isn’t the only player being linked with a move away from Ibrox. Glen Kamara is just one of the other players being monitored by clubs in the English Premier League, with Crystal Palace and Brighton being interested in securing his signature (Daily Mail). And assuming Rangers meet their objectives for the season, each one of these players, like Morelos and Kamara, will increase in price.

This isn’t to suggest that Wilson and Gerrard will definitely cash out in the summer. It just shows that there is no need to offload players for the sake of turning profit in January. Each player is an investment that appears to be growing and growing in value. Worst case scenario, Rangers are stuck with a group of players who appear to be won over by the current set of fans. Seems like a win-win scenario for everyone.
