This week, Football Insider insisted that Liverpool were eyeing deals for Rangers youngsters Nathan Patterson and Leon King. Apparently club scouts have been watching the pair closely and are hopeful of bringing them into the Merseyside academy.

This news could come as a shock to Rangers fans, many of whom may have expected Patterson to push into the first team sooner rather than later. It has been no secret that James Tavernier has struggled with a lack of competition in his position. Patterson has admitted that his goal would be to break into the first team and fight for a starting spot (Daily Record).

Do you think Patterson deserves a chance to fight for a starting spot over Tavernier?

Does Patterson deserve a shot over Tavernier in the starting lineup?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Of course, none of this would be possible should he leave for Liverpool. How the incoming scenario is handled could draw a line in the sand. With obvious connections to Liverpool, Gerrard must stay firm and keep ahold of his player. But Patterson has the potential to make an impact on this Rangers team in the not so distant future. It is important to have a good working relationship with other clubs, such as Liverpool, but it is equally as important to build a strong squad that has a good mixture of youth and experience.

Luckily, it appears as if Rangers are in the midst of negotiating a new contract with the player (Football Insider). This could be an indication that the club isn’t just willing to sell up. With a 55th league title on the horizon, Rangers plan on going from strength to strength, both now and in the future. If this is true, and Steven Gerrard can put his Liverpool loyalties to the side, then it truly shows that he has the club’s best interests at heart. At the end of the day, however, his main priority will be winning. If he can do that, then the fans will be happy.
