This week it has been rumoured that serious investment could be coming into Rangers before the January transfer window (Daily Record). The news will inevitability cause Rangers fans to feel a sense of excitement as the club search for the 55th league title.

Amidst these rumours, Julian Wolhardt was seen watching the Ger’s match against Hamilton on the weekend (Rangers News). The Hong Kong businessman already has a high influence on the football club after purchasing shares from Mike Ashley (The Scottish Sun).

Perhaps with Rangers’ current run of form, the businessman is looking to increase his investment into the club. The timing of this investment could suggest that Rangers are looking to make big money buys in the transfer window. But it could also suggest that the club are bringing in these investments to keep a hold of key players.

It was reported the club needed to bring in £10million before the end of the season (Daily Record). An easy solution to that problem would be the sale of current assets. And with Rangers players in high demand at the moment, it wouldn’t be difficult to offload them. Alfredo Morelos is one of the players being sought after by multiple suitors.

The Colombian’s sale would almost definitely bring in the money required. He has been rumoured to be on the radar of multiple Premier League teams, who value him at around £20million (The Sun).

So, perhaps this investment is not a bid to increase squad numbers, but instead an attempt to keep key assets at the club. Allowing the 23-year old striker to leave would seriously hinder the team’s ability to win its 55th league title. He has scored nine goals in 12 appearances in the league (transfermarkt.co.uk). If this estimation is correct, Morelos could be extending his stay at Ibrox. This is news that Steven Gerrard and the Rangers faithful will be thrilled to hear.
