Glasgow giants Celtic are set to hand left-back and outcast Greg Taylor more game time under Neil Lennon, Football Insider understands.

The report states that the Hoops boss is impressed by Taylor’s performances for the Scottish national team and that is set to earn the defender a promotion up the club’s pecking order soon.

They regard the youngster highly but have told him to be patient and that he has to get accustomed to the team’s style of play and their expectations of how to play the full-back role at a side dominating possession.

But his recent performances for the national team have sped up the promotion process.

Undeserved outcast

Taylor was roped in by Celtic this past summer from Kilmarnock on a four-year deal just days after the club had sold young Kieran Tierney to Arsenal in a deal that was priced around £25 million.

Since joining though, Taylor has been out of favour in Glasgow. He has played only three times in the Scottish Premiership so far, appearing just six times in all competitions. The Scot is yet to play for the club in European competition.

Taylor was recently called up to the Scottish national team in the ongoing international break though and the former Killie man played the full 90 minutes of the game against Cyprus. He racked up one assist – his maiden contribution to the national team. It was his second appearance for the side.

For Kilmarnock last season, Taylor had played as many as 41 times in all competitions for the club. He had also racked up a tally of one goal and four assists.

TIF Tactics

Taylor’s performances show that the quality is certainly there. He has shown that for the country and for Kilmarnock over the last three seasons. He was a regular at left-back during this time for his former club.

As things stand, Boli Bolingoli is Lennon’s preferred first-choice at left-back. He has played 12 times in the Premiership as Johnny Hayes also featured in that position in the club’s games against Lazio in the Europa League.

Clearly, Celtic have only two options who are proper left-backs. One is Bolingoli and the other is Taylor. And due to low competition in that position, Taylor will get his chance very soon. And he will deserve it.
