Spurs fans were celebrating former player Michael Dawson’s birthday on Twitter today, with some fans wishing they had the Nottingham Forest defender back in their current line-up.
The defender, who celebrates his 36th birthday today, currently captains Nottingham Forest after moving there from Hull in the summer. The veteran centre-half was a regular in his nine years with Spurs, having joined from Forest in 2005, making 324 appearances for the North London club, as well as captaining the Lilywhites.
After the club posted a video of one of Dawson’s goals for the club wishing him a happy birthday, fans were quick to recall the former England international’s performances in a Spurs shirt.
Many fans even felt that Dawson would be a better option than their current centre-back options, with both Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen’s futures up in the air.
Reaction from Spurs fans to the club’s post about Dawson can be seen in the tweets below.
Could do with his attitude and spirit in our squad.

Miss seeing the passion that Daws had on the pitch

It’s all well & good being comfortable in possession, stepping out of defence & passing the ball about, but sometimes managers forget defence is about protecting our goal no matter what.
Something this guy did as good as anyone!

My all time favourite player ever. Never wanted him to leave. How I miss him at Spurs. True captain, professional & leader. Always busted his gut & threw his body on the line for the team.

Spurs fans would clearly love to have a prime Michael Dawson back at the heart of their defence and the 36-year-old is clearly viewed highly by the majority of fans.
