Scott Brown has received heaps of praise for his recent form from Celtic manager Neil Lennon, with the boss suggesting he could receive another contract in the future.

The 34-year-old has shown little signs of his form declining as he enters the twilight years of his career, and his manager has been singing his captain’s praises to the media.

He told The Scottish Sun: “Broony’s incredible. And I think he’s playing as well as ever. I look at Rangers away, Lazio, Hibs, Aberdeen away and other games.

“He had a little bit of a toe problem at the start of the season that was curtailing him. But he’s over that now.

“He’s in a good place and the players respect him and look up to him.

“But he’s not in the team as a cheerleader. He’s in the team because he’s a bloody good player.

“Broony keeps churning out consistent performances that we don’t take for granted.”

The Northern Irish manager is in his second spell in charge as Celtic manager and has even hinted that his veteran skipper could have secured himself another contract extension at Parkhead – despite only signing on for an additional two years back in January (club’s official website).

“It will depend on how Scott is feeling and how he’s playing at the time. I think he’s got another year after this one.

“So we’ll take a view of that maybe this time next year, with him as well. But the way he’s playing at the minute, it might cost us a few bob!”

TIF Tactics

540 games, 12 years a Bhoy, captain of the club – it’s easier to ask what hasn’t Scott Brown achieved at Celtic.

The experienced skipper has been as crucial as ever for the Glaswegians this season as he has continued to appear to belie his advancing years with some stellar performances in the middle of the park.

Despite not being a goalscoring midfielder, he grabbed a brace in last weekend’s Scottish League Cup semi-final win against Hibernian, after making his 24th appearance of the season (Transfermarkt). He bosses the midfield and frightens many who come up against him.

There’ll be a week of mourning when ‘Broony’ hangs up his boots, hence his manager’s intent to keep him at Parkhead for as long as possible.
