Wolverhampton Wanderers may have an advantage that will swing the signing of Franck Kessie their way in January, according to Sport Witness.

Reports from Tuttosport have suggested that Napoli are keen on signing AC Milan midfielder, Kessie, however, two other clubs hold an ‘advantage’ over the signing (via Sport Witness).

The other clubs are that in the form of French outfit, AS Monaco, and the Old Gold, meaning that ‘super agent’ Jorge Mendes may be the perceived ‘advantage’, despite Kessie not being one of his clients.

To sign or not to sign?

While the rumours of the Ivorian’s transfer to Molineux are, evidently, still circling – there may be one major stumbling block to a deal.

That being, that Wolves’ head of recruitment, John Marshall, has already poured cold water on a potential deal for the 22-year-old (via Express and Star).

However, many supporters believed, at the time of the interview, that he was purposely playing down their interest so others would not be alerted, meaning a deal could still happen.

TiF Tactics – Do Wolves need him?

The potential transfer raises a lot of key questions: are Wolves still interested? Is the deal really ruled out? Is Jorge Mendes involved? Would he sign for the Old Gold?

If the answers to those questions are: yes, no, yes, yes, then Kessie could provide a sturdy option for Nuno Espirito Santo, which could prove vital if Wolves progress in the Europa League.

It has already been discussed that the Old Gold is struggling for squad depth with the demands of the Europa League (per The Guardian), and the Ivorian’s arrival could add much-needed squad depth.

Despite appearing to have seven senior options in the centre of midfield (per Transfermarkt), all is not how it may appear.

Ming Yang-Yang and Bruno Jordao are nowhere to be seen near the first team, Morgan Gibbs-White still needs to develop to first-team standard and Leander Dendoncker and Romain Saiss are plugging gaps in central defence.

That leaves Espirito Santo with just Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho as viable options, meaning Kessie could provide essential competition to the centre of the park if signed.

With a 6.56/10 average rating from ten Serie A outings this term (per Whoscored), the 22-year-old, who is valued at £27 million (Transfermarkt), could perhaps improve but would be a welcome addition at Molineux nevertheless.
