West Ham United goalkeeper Roberto Jimenez had been on the receiving end of ‘ironic cheers’ during the match against Tottenham Hotspur, which was noticed by Twitter user West Ham News.
Both keepers had games to forget, with the match finishing 3-2 to Spurs as it was hardly the greatest showing defensively from either side. Jimenez made three saves, which is the exact same amount as Paulo Gazzaniga, however, the 33-year-old did have a better pass success ratio of 48%, compared to the Argentine’s 44%.
A number of supporters took to Twitter to state that they felt that the ironic jeers were a little too harsh, with others stating that it wasn’t the Spaniard’s fault and that he didn’t deserve the onslaught he was receiving.
Roberto has been poor don’t get me wrong, but the ironic cheers every time he touched the ball were out of order – especially at 0-0

He’s terrible, but he doesn’t deserve what some people are giving him

I agree, does nothing to benefit the team at all. Yeah he ain’t great but bullying the guy ain’t gonna help

I totally agree but let’s be honest there was nothing else to cheer about

Totally agree.
He isn’t anywhere good enough to be playing at this level… it’s not his fault.
The usual scrimping and saving by the board has meant he’s found himself in this awful position.
I have no idea how he even made it professional.— Kris Johnson (@kjohno10) November 24, 2019
This jeering really isn’t going to help the struggling keeper. It’s been clear to see this season that he’s out of his depth, although it would seem some of the fans are pointing the finger elsewhere.
Not helping anyone is it, as I said if we were going to turn on someone needed to be the manager yesterday if Fabianski played we’d of still lost fact

The club has turned into the circus we were promised it would never be again when we left UP.

What Do We Think?
Obviously the whole West Ham side didn’t have a great game. It was good to see Michail Antonio mark his return with a goal, but apart from that, Tottenham never really looked in danger. Roberto shouldn’t have been treated the way he was, but it just goes to show the evergrowing frustration amongst the Hammers fans.
