After Jose Mourinho’s appointment as Spurs boss on Wednesday morning, many Spurs fans turned their attention to slamming Mauricio Pochettino for his decision in the Champions League final.
Moura, who signed for Spurs from PSG in January 2018, struggled for regular game-time under Mauricio Pochettino and fans are hoping that Mourinho could be the key in unlocking the Brazilian’s potential. The 27-year-old has featured just 73 times for the North London club in nearly two years with the club, scoring 18 goals in the process; the first of which came in an FA Cup draw with Rochdale.
The winger was instrumental in Spurs’ journey to the Champions League final last season, scoring a brilliant hat-trick in the dramatic win over Ajax in the semi-final, although Pochettino’s thoughts on the former PSG man were perhaps summed up when he dropped him for the final against Liverpool in Madrid.
Spurs fans will be hoping that Moura can produce similar displays to the one against Ajax in upcoming games under Mourinho, after he spoke to UOL Esporte (via DailyHotspur) about his excitement about playing under Mourinho.
Reaction from Spurs fans to Moura being excited about playing under Mourinho can be seen in the tweets below.
Worst decision poch EVER made was not starting Lucas in the final!!!

Hardly surprising, how the hell he got dropped for the final to be replaced by a half fit Kane is incomprehensible!

Not suprised, he scored every other game but always got subbed

As well it should. My one serious disagreement with Poch was sitting Lucas, who has become a favorite, and is a #coys hero.

Think anyone would. if you score a hatty in the semi finals I’d expect to start no matter what

Spurs fans are clearly still frustrated that Moura didn’t start the Champions League final and will be hoping to see a lot more of Moura under Mourinho. Of course, deciding not to start Lucas in the final was a big decision as he had played a huge part in Spurs getting there, including his brace in the semi-final second leg vs Ajax.
What do we think?
Moura has started just five games for Spurs so far this season but clearly feels that he can become a starter under Mourinho. It will be interesting to see how the Portuguese manager lines up in his first Spurs game, as they make the trip to face West Ham today, with Moura one of many players who are seemingly desperate to impress.
