Spurs fans have been treated to a news that their club are reportedly interested in Ajax right-back Noussair Mazraoui.

According to Italian newspaper Calcio Mercato (via Ricky Sacks), Spurs are interested in the 21-year-old Moroccan full-back, as they look to strengthen their defence.  The young defender, who is valued at around £13.5 million by transfermarkt, has made 11 appearances for the Dutch champions so far this season, having progressed from the youth team in March 2018.

The right-back has averaged a solid 6.84 rating in his limited displays for Ajax so far this season, with Sergiño Dest often preferred at right-back. This suggests that Mazraoui is currently a back-up for the Eredivisie side.

The youngster is a full Morocco international, having made his debut in September 2018, so would bring some international pedigree should he make the move to Spurs. Full-back is indeed a position they need to strengthen, with Serge Aurier receiving a rating of just 6.63 (as per WhoScored) in the Premier League this season and Kyle Walker-Peters is yet to feature since the Carabao Cup clash with Colchester United.

Some of the best reactions from Spurs fans to the Mazraoui rumours can be seen in the tweets below.

Spurs fans are clearly keen on Mauricio Pochettino signing any sort of right-back, so seem more than happy to see Mazraoui being linked with a move.

What do we think?

Spurs’ need for another right-back is clear for all to see, especially with the form of Serge Aurier. However, it seems that they are targeting a relatively unheard of right-back, who is being kept out of the Ajax side by 18-year-old Dest. They may be better off targeting the likes of Youcef Atal or Max Aarons, who have impressed in their respective leagues in recent times.
