Spurs have been chasing Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes for some time now, but it seems as if new boss Jose Mourinho will make an approach for the 25-year-old in January.

According to Record (via Sport Witness), Mourinho is a big fan of the Sporting Lisbon captain and could make him his first signing as Spurs boss. Fernandes has been in scintillating form for the Portuguese giants since joining from Sampdoria; with 57 goals and 44 assists in 126 games.

With Spurs currently languishing in 14th in the league, Mourinho may look to bring in the man who is valued at €70m (£60m) to provide some added firepower in the Spurs attack. Fernandes has started this season in a similar fashion to the previous two at Sporting; averaging a 7.7 rating with eight goals and six assists already this campaign.

TIF Tactics:

Fernandes could prove to be an ideal replacement for Christian Eriksen; who confirmed his intention to leave Spurs in the summer. And, former Spurs man Chris Waddle has even stated (Racing Post, via Goal) that Eriksen could find himself left out in the cold if he’s not careful under Jose Mourinho.

With Dele Alli returning to fitness after an early-season hamstring injury, it would be interesting to see where Fernandes would fit into this new-look Spurs team. If Mourinho can shift some of the potential deadwood in the Spurs squad to raise funds for Fernandes then he would surely prove an effective signing for the North London club, with his ability to contribute from midfield areas (nine goals and six assists so far this season) potentially helping lighten the load on Harry Kane.
