Spurs fans were treated to the news this week that the club have joined Manchester United and PSG in chasing Roma wonderkid Nicolo Zaniolo, with the Italian reportedly top of Jose Mourinho’s transfer list.
According to the Daily Express (via Ricky Sacks), the 20-year-old is a serious target for the new Spurs boss as he looks for a long-term replacement for Christian Eriksen. The youngster has made 17 appearances for Roma so far this season; averaging a 6.9 rating for Paulo Fonseca’s side.
With Eriksen possibly departing in the summer, Zaniolo could be the ideal man to replace the Danish international, with the 20-year-old having already established himself as a regular for the Serie A giants despite his tender age. However, it seems as if Spurs will face stiff competition from the likes of Manchester United and PSG in securing the services of Zaniolo, so it may be tough for Mourinho to bring in the £36 million-rated man in January.
Reaction from Spurs fans to the interest in Zaniolo can be seen in the tweets below.

I’ve been watching Zaniolo at Roma & Italy! Reminds me of a young Pirlo… Not sure if he would suit Prem but saying that he’s still young with plenty potential & with the right coach he could be a great replacement for Eriksen but will take time.

Not saying this signing will happen. But just the fact we have Jose in charge makes us an even more attractive prospect.

It seems as if a lot of Spurs fans are interested in Zaniolo and will be hoping that Mourinho can sort a deal for the 20-year-old in the upcoming transfer window.
What do we think?
Zaniolo is certainly a target for the future, although a creative midfielder may not be what Spurs need at the moment. The Italian has especially impressed in the Europa League this season, with two goals and two assists in the four games Roma have played in the competition. However, it seems unlikely that Daniel Levy would sanction a move for the £36 million rated youngster when they already have the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Dele Alli at the club.
