After a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland last night, Denmark confirmed their place at Euro 2020 and after Spurs congratulated Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen on Twitter, fans were far from complimentary.

Eriksen, who joined from Ajax in 2013, made his intentions to leave Spurs very clear in the summer but still finds himself at the club after a move away never materialised. The 27-year-old midfielder has been one of several disappointments in the Spurs squad this season, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently languishing in 14th position in the Premier League.

The Danish international has averaged a poor 6.57 rating in the Premier League this season and it seems as if he will leave the North London club on a sour note, despite six fairly successful seasons with the club. Eriksen, who has made 291 appearances at Spurs, could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season when his contract expires.

It is no surprise that Eriksen is not in the good books of fans at the moment, so when the club congratulated the 27-year-old on his success with Denmark, fans took the opportunity to slate the midfielder, as can be seen in the tweets below.

A lot of Spurs fans were clearly not interested in congratulating Eriksen after his international success, with most wanting to the midfielder to leave the club.

What do we think?

Eriksen has been a quality player for Spurs and established himself as one of the best creative midfielder’s in the Premier League; scoring 68 and assisting 87 times in his Spurs career so far. However, his contract negotiations, or lack of, are clearly impacting his performances and it seems clear that he no longer has any desire to play for the club.

Of course, if Spurs have an opportunity to sell their £90 million man in January then they should, or risk losing him on a free in the summer.
