After former Manchester United and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was appointed as the new Spurs manager this morning, fans were less than impressed with the 56-year-old’s reported wage at the North London club.
According to the Daily Mail (via HotspurRelated), Mourinho will earn £15 million as Spurs boss, which is reportedly double the wage that Mauricio Pochettino received as Spurs boss.
The former Manchester United manager has signed a contract at the North London club until 2023 and will take charge of Spurs’ trip to West Ham on Saturday. Levy described Mourinho as: “one of the most successful managers in football” and the Portuguese manager certainly brings some pedigree to the position at Spurs.
However, a lot of fans seem disgruntled that Mourinho is earning so much at Spurs considering Pochettino’s earnings in his time with the club, as can be seen in the tweets below.

A lot of Spurs fans are clearly not impressed by Mourinho’s reported earnings but will certainly be hoping he proves to be worthy of his hefty price.
What do we think?
Mourinho comes at a big price but is a proven winner wherever he has managed and could be exactly what Spurs need to push on this season. It will be interesting to see if Levy provides Mourinho with the funds he will no doubt require to turn Spurs’ season around and whether Spurs’ current contract rebels decide to stay at the club to play under the legendary Portuguese manager.
He has a great opportunity to kick off his Spurs career with a win when they make the short trip to the London Stadium on Saturday to face an out-of-form West Ham.
