Spurs fans have been calling out Christian Eriksen on Twitter this week after the midfielder revealed that he thought his contract situation wasn’t the reason behind him starting recent games on the bench.
Eriksen, who signed from Ajax in 2013, reportedly (via Ricky Sacks) said; “I feel 100% Tottenham has complete confidence in me. I don’t feel there’s a connection between my contract situation and not playing as many matches.”
The 27-year-old has started eight games this season for Mauricio Pochettino’s side but was left on the bench in Saturday’s draw with Sheffield United.
The Danish international made his intention to leave Spurs very clear in the summer; with Real Madrid reportedly interested in the midfielder but no transfer materialised.
It seems as if Eriksen will either leave in the upcoming transfer window or in the summer; when his contract is set to expire. Despite a new deal still yet to be signed, Eriksen still feels that the club have confidence in him, but this is not a view that is shared by the majority of Spurs fans.
Reaction from Spurs fans to Eriksen’s quote and his season so far can be seen in the tweets below.
He’s screwing Spurs over.

On his day he is as good as anyone in the league he is the one not performing and that is because he is looking after himself for his move

I think it’s more your contract situation is affecting your form mate

Lack of motivation = poor performances

It’s because he’s been rubbish all season. Why that is one can debate.

So what does he put his poor form down too?
— Ian Brazier (@Ian_P_Brazier) November 12, 2019
He’s basically saying that he knows that his lack of game time is due to his performances, not his contract situation

Spurs fans are clearly not happy with Eriksen and it seems that the majority of fans want him out of the club sooner rather than later.
What do we think?
Eriksen has been a great player for Spurs in his six years with the club; scoring 68 goals in his 291 appearances for the North London club. However, his performances this season have been far from good enough, with the attacking midfielder averaging a disappointing 6.73 rating in all competitions.
At this point it seems better for both Spurs and Eriksen for him to leave the club as soon as possible.
