Many Spurs fans have reacted to Toby Alderweireld’s post, with a number of supporters wanting to see him put pen to paper.
The Belgian defender is one of several players expected to depart the club on a free transfer in the summer when his current contract expires, but Mourinho’s arrival seems to have rejuvenated the 30-year-old and many fans are now confident that he will sign an extension.
The experienced centre-back joined Spurs from Atletico Madrid in 2015 and has gone on to make 173 appearances for the North London side in his four years at the club.
The former Southampton man’s performances under Pochettino this season were less than impressive, with many Spurs fans quoting his poor form as one of the reasons the Argentinian was sacked.
However, he was immediately restored to the starting line-up in Mourinho’s first game in charge as they won 3-2 against West Ham and now many fans feel that he is likely to sign a new deal with the club.

These Spurs fans are clearly desperate for Alderweireld to sign a new deal with the club and will be hoping to see an announcement before January.

If Mourinho wasn’t convinced that Alderweireld was likely to sign a new deal then he probably wouldn’t be playing the Belgian defender. After a move away failed to materialise in the summer, with several clubs deciding against his reported £25 million release clause, it seems as if the defender signing a new deal with Spurs could now be likely.
