Spurs fans were treated to the news (as per The Sun) that the club could be looking to sign Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana in January, but it seems as if the majority of fans are not interested in the 23-year-old stopper.

Onana has been a regular in the Ajax side over the past few years and established himself as a top ‘keeper during the Dutch club’s incredible Champions League run last season, which was ironically ended by Spurs in a dramatic semi-final clash. The Cameroonian was a product of the Samuel Eto’o academy and joined up with La Masia in 2010. He spent five years there before moving to Ajax in 2015 and has gone on to make 159 appearances for the side.

Onana, who is currently valued between £30 million and £35 million, could provide a long-term replacement option for Hugo Lloris, with the 32-year-old set to be out for some time following his injury against Brighton. The Frenchman has been with Spurs since 2012 and may be approaching the end of his Spurs career in the near future, so Onana could be the perfect man for Mauricio Pochettino to bring in.

However, it seems as if the bulk of Spurs fans would be disappointed with the signing of Onana, as can be seen in the tweets below.

It seems as if the majority of fans aren’t keen on the signing of Andre Onana, with many having faith that Paulo Gazzaniga is more than capable of taking on the number one role in Lloris’ absence.

What do we think?

Onana is still only 23, so can be trusted to maintain a starting spot in the Premier League for a significant period of time. The Cameroon International has been extremely impressive in Ajax’s Champions League games thus far, averaging a 7.63 over Ajax’s three European fixtures. Onana has established himself on the European and domestic stage and it may be time for him to make his move to a club such as Spurs.
