Spurs fans were finally able to see Ryan Sessegnon in a Tottenham shirt for the first time this weekend, but fans were extremely frustrated with the nature of it, as he appeared as a 102nd minute substitute for Christian Eriksen.

The 19-year-old winger, who signed from Fulham in the summer, was used as a last-minute substitute in the 1-1 draw with Everton, so had very little time to impact the game. There was an extended amount of added time due to the horrible injury suffered by Everton midfielder Andre Gomes, with Spurs conceding a 97th-minute equaliser via the head of Cenk Tosun.

In the final seconds of the game, Sessegnon was introduced by Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs fans were far from happy that their Argentinian boss waited so long to introduce the youngster into the game. Sessegnon gained the attention of a lot of Premier League clubs for his PFA Player of the Year award-winning season with Fulham in 2017/18 before he suffered relegation with Fulham last year.

An injury suffered in an England Under-21 game has kept Sessegnon out of any Premier League action since signing and fans will no doubt be happy that he has finally made his first appearance. However, the lateness of his introduction has annoyed a lot of Spurs fans, of whom a significant amount continues to call for Pochettino to be sacked.

The reaction to Sessegnon’s late introduction can be seen in the tweets from Spurs fans below.

Spurs fans were clearly unhappy with the nature of Sessegnon’s debut, with many feeling that the 19-year-old should be playing ahead of contract rebel Christian Eriksen.

What do we think?

It’s a shame that Sessegnon was forced to make his debut in the 102nd minute of a game that will be remembered for an injury rather than the game itself, with Pochettino seemingly unwilling to give the youngster a chance to make a real impact. However, with Heung Min-Son now out for three games due to suspension, perhaps we will see Sessengon get a start, either against Red Star on Wednesday or in Saturday’s home game against Sheffield United.
