Some Manchester United fans are gushing about Sergio Romero and feel that he is an underrated second-choice goalkeeper.
The Argentine played for the Red Devils in their 2-1 win over Chelsea in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. He saw Marcus Rashford grab an impressive brace, which included a stunning second-half free-kick.
The game at Stamford Bridge was Romero’s fourth appearance of the season – the second in the League Cup. He has also played two of United’s games in the UEFA Europa League.
Some United fans have hailed the former Sampdoria keeper and feel that he deserves more credit.
Sergio has played behind a back three and a back four in recent weeks…#MUFC

The best backup in the league

Romero joined United on a free transfer in the summer of 2015. Since arriving, the Argentina international has played 49 times in all competitions for the Red Devils, keeping 29 clean sheets.
Before joining United, Romero was at Serie A side Sampdoria. He was the first-choice goalkeeper at the Blucerchiati, where he made 74 appearances for the club’s senior side and played a role in their promotion from the Serie B.
Some United fans also felt that there is currently little difference between Romero and first-choice goalkeeper David de Gea.
Very little between him and David

He is very unlucky to be a deputy to De Gea but from the look of things he seem to be very comfortable and has no regrets nor sideshows being a back up keeper at United

Far better than Dea gea but he is always underrated, keeps clean sheets more than the first choice, I pray your given a chance to shine

What do we think?
For someone who played in a FIFA World Cup final, it is fair to say that Romero is under-valued. However, saying that he’s the best second-choice keeper in the Premier League would be harsh because it is tough to judge second-choice goalkeepers properly.
They don’t play enough to be judged concretely until they get regular playing time due to an injury to the first-choice shot-stopper, or because of a poor run of form that forces the manager into action. Romero has never really appeared to have played matches for any club that regularly himself.
