Former Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph proved himself to be a useful utility player for Pep Guardiola and his team. A central-midfielder by trade, the 30-year-old competently filled in at left-back for a period of time as well as providing back-up to the likes of Fernandinho.

Delph, due largely to a lack of game-time left the club during the summer and joined Everton in a deal believed to be worth approximately £8.5m in the summer of this year.  But has the former Aston Villa player’s presence been missed and how much was he appreciated at the Etihad Stadium?

What do we think?

In terms of his technical ability it’s fair to say Delph wasn’t quite to the standards Guardiola and Manchester City required but his commitment and attitude was exemplary.  There’s no doubt the player would have been desperate for more game time but that frustration was channelled in a positive way and as a result the squad benefited greatly.

Delph made 89 appearances for Manchester City, scored five goals and registered three assists.  The tough tackler picked up seven yellow cards and was dismissed twice during his time at the Etihad.  Given the injury problems Pep and his team are having to contend with, they could do with a player as versatile as the two-time Premier League winner now.
