Liverpool have regularly been linked with Timo Werner in the past but it seems as if the club could finally make a move for him in January, although many fans expect the 23-year-old to only be a back-up for Roberto Firmino.

According to Bleacher Report (via Express), Jurgen Klopp is considering a move for Werner in January after his electric start to the season for RB Leipzig under new boss Julian Nagelsmann; with 11 goals in as many Bundesliga games.

The German striker joined from VFB Stuggart in 2016 for £12 million and has seen his value soar in three seasons with Leipzig and is now valued at £58.5 million (Transfermarkt).

With Liverpool currently unbeaten in the league, Werner could provide the attacking boost needed to see them over the finish line and secure their first top division title since 1990.

Despite his obvious goal-scoring talent, Werner would perhaps struggle to break into Liverpool’s front three due to the Reds’ recent form and may only be a back-up to begin with for Jurgen Klopp’s side; which may hinder their chances of signing him as he looks to secure a place in Germany’s Euro 2020 squad.

Reaction from Liverpool fans to the latest Werner rumours can be seen in the tweets below.

Liverpool fans seem keen on bringing in Werner as a back-up at first before hoping that the 23-year-old can push on and become a regular at Anfield.

What do we think?

Liverpool are, of course, currently eight points clear at the top so there is a temptation to not change anything about the team. It is a long season, however, and Liverpool are very reliant on their current front three, so if one of them were to get injured then Werner could provide goals, either on the wing or in a central position.

The 23-year-old would offer Klopp serious strength-in-depth and offers different type of striker to Firmino, with goals the main part of his attacking game.
