Lots of Liverpool fans have been reacting positively to the comments made by Pep Guardiola about Anfield this week, as his side prepare to travel to Liverpool for a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday.

Guardiola’s side currently sit second in the table and travel to Anfield hoping to cut the gap on Jurgen Klopp’s side to three points. However, history is against the Citizens, with their last win at Anfield coming in May 2003.

The current Premier League champions were the only side to beat Liverpool in the league last season; winning 2-1 at the Etihad, but a late missed penalty from Riyad Mahrez meant their winless streak at Anfield would continue until this season at least. Guardiola speaks very highly of Anfield in an interview with Spanish television saying, “there’s something about it you will find in no other stadium in the world.”

When discussing Liverpool’s dramatic win over Barcelona last year, the former manager says “they score a goal and over the next five minutes you feel that you’ll receive another four.” Reds fans will certainly be hoping that is the case on Sunday in what is sure to be one of the most important games for both sides this season.

Reaction from Reds fans to Guardiola’s interview can be seen in the tweets below.

Lots of Liverpool fans clearly feel Guardiola is worried ahead of Sunday’s game with the current league leaders and will be hoping for another home win against City.

What do we think?

Guardiola clearly understands the influence the Anfield atmosphere has on Liverpool’s performances, with the Reds unbeaten at home since losing to Crystal Palace in 2017.  If Liverpool can triumph against City again on Sunday they will take a massive step towards winning the league title but you can never rule out a Pep Guardiola side.
