Some Crystal Palace fans have hailed the club’s performance against Liverpool despite the result not going in their favour on Saturday this past weekend.

There was controversy in the game as a James Tomkins goal in the first half was cancelled out by VAR. Liverpool took the lead through Sadio Mane later, but Wilfried Zaha got the goal to draw Palace level late in the game.

But minutes after the Zaha goal, Liverpool re-took the lead through Roberto Firmino and remained unbeaten in the Premier League (BBC).

The result saw Palace stretch their unbeaten league run up to five games. Despite that, some fans are happy with the performance against the Champions of Europe on Saturday.

Palace find themselves at 13th in the Premier League with 15 points on the board. Roy Hodgson’s men have picked up only one point from their last five games and their last league win came against West Ham away from home in the first week of October.

It was a decent spell for the Eagles as it extended their unbeaten run to three. It had come after a draw against Wolves at home and a 2-0 win over Norwich City at Selhurst Park.

So far this season, they have scored the second-lowest number of goals in the Premier League, finding the net just 11 times. Only Watford have scored fewer than them, as have Newcastle United. When it comes to goals conceded, Palace have shipped 18 goals and that’s the eighth-worst record in the league so far.

What do we think?

While it is arguable whether the Tomkins goal should have stood or not, the performance wasn’t bad at all considering they were playing the only unbeaten side in the Premier League and the current European Champions.

Despite that, Palace registered more shots on target than Liverpool, who had only a tally of 12 as compared to Palace’s tally of 16. They had six of them on target, as compared to Liverpool’s number of four. They also completed more dribbles in the game than Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Having said that, it is during games like these that Palace lack a proper centre-forward. Signing a striker in the January transfer window will make a lot of sense for the Eagles and could help them be a little more competitive against some of the league’s biggest sides.
