A Portuguese doctor has suggested that Everton midfielder, Andre Gomes, should wait until next season to make his comeback, according to O Jogo.

The Portugal-based newspaper sought the opinion of a doctor, Domingos Gomes, and he suggested it will be over six months until the 26-year-old will make a return (via Sportwitness).

Domingos Gomes, who is an orthopedist and used to work for Porto (per Sportswitness), explained that whilst not only physically recovering – Gomes will have to regain confidence psychologically and in his motor skills.

Where does Gomes go from here?

Following the extent of the Portuguese 26-year-old’s injury, Gomes underwent surgery on Monday on his fractured and dislocated ankle which was a success (per The Mirror).

Following surgery, after being discharged from hospital on Tuesday, he will continue rehabilitation with Everton’s medical staff (via Daily Mail).

Then, the long wait will begin while the medical team monitor the progression of his ankle healing before he begins light activities to strengthen the weakened area (via The Sun).

TiF Tactics – Who will cover for Gomes?

It is safe to say that Marco Silva is light for reinforcements in Gomes’ midfield area now, with a suspected injury to Fabian Delph causing further issues (per Liverpool Echo).

Should Delph miss game time through injury also, Silva will only have three senior options to fill the deeper side of his midfield (per Transfermarkt).

Despite having a number of attacking midfield options, deeper Silva will only have Morgan Schneiderlin, Beni Baningime and Tom Davies due to injuries to Jean Phillipe-Gbamin, Gomes and potentially Delph (via Liverpool Echo).

Of those options Silva will, more than likely, opt with the Englishman and the Frenchman of the trio – with Baningime only having twelve senior appearances to his name, and none this season (via Transfermarkt).
