Everton supporters have aired their frustration over the officials which have been appointed for the upcoming clash with Liverpool.

Tranmere Rovers supporter Mike Dean has been appointed as the referee for the clash at Anfield, with Martin Atkinson set to take control of VAR also (as per Liverpool Echo).

The latter of the two was the Video Assistant Referee for the Toffees’ clash with Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, in which fans were left furious by the official after the game (as per Liverpool echo).

With the announcement coming ahead of Everton’s visit to Anfield next week, many fans fumed over the appointment.

Should Mike Dean be allowed to referee the Merseyside derby?

The club has found themselves in turbulent water of late, with Marco Silva rumoured to be set to be relieved of his duties, perhaps ahead of the trip to the red half of Merseyside (as per Daily Express).

With fury raging amongst the Toffees’ supporters, many let their anger over the appointment of the Wirral-born referee flow on social media.

What do we think?

VAR certainly has had a turbulent introduction into the Premier League, and none more so than in Merseyside (per Liverpool Echo).

Coupled with that, the choice of Dean – due to his close proximity to the two clubs – seems a bizarre choice of referee for the clash, as does Atkinson, who is already disliked by Toffees supporters.
