Liverpool ace Andy Robertson has backed Celtic summer signing and outcast, Greg Taylor, to make an impact for the Scottish national team.

Robertson, who had to withdraw from the national side in the ongoing international break because of injury, was talking to Herald Scotland recently. He talked about Greg Taylor and backed him to succeed in the games against Cyprus and Kazakhstan.

He said: “The only positive is the gaffer will get to look at other players such as Greg Taylor who hasn’t had as much game time as he would have wanted at Celtic, so I hope he gets game time and plays well.

“Greg was unbelievable against Belgium away and is more than capable of filling in that left-back role, and it gives the manager a chance to look at him.

“I wish all the lads all the best but more importantly Greg because he’s a really good young player who is up and coming.”

Frozen out at Celtic Park

Taylor, 22, joined Celtic this past summer from fellow Scottish Premiership side Kilmarnock after he signed a four-year deal at the club.

But it hasn’t really been smooth sailing for him since then. He has played only three Premiership games this season, playing twice in the Europa League qualifying stages and appearing once in the Scottish League Cup so far.

This is far different from how it was for him at Killie. Taylor was a regular at Rugby Park for three seasons running. Last season, he played as many as 31 times for the club, scoring once and assisting four times.

In the 2017-18 campaign, the Scot played even more games. He made 33 appearances for the first-team and had one assist to his name. Even in the 2016-17 season, Taylor played regularly, staking claim to 34 first-team games.

TIF Tactics

While Taylor may not be playing too much for the Glasgow side, he has already made his debut for the national team. His first appearance for the country came this past summer when he played full 90 minutes in a 3-0 loss to World Cup semi-finalists Belgium.

The fact that he is an international level player shows that he deserves to play more for Celtic, considering that he came in as a replacement for the departed Kieran Tierney. But with the Arsenal man and Robertson not playing for the Scots in the international games this week, Taylor has to grab this chance by both hands and impress the on-lookers.

It is his chance to shine. If he does well, Neil Lennon could well give him more chances in the club’s first-team.
