Arsenal star Matteo Guendouzi has been nominated for the Golden Boy award, a prize that celebrates Europe’s best young players under the age of 21. The Frenchman joined Arsenal from Lorient in July 2018 for £7.2m and has shown signs of developing into a fine midfield player – making that an absolute steal.
These Arsenal fans, however, feel Guendouzi would be better served by another Head Coach and have suggested his development has been hampered by Unai Emery and his methods.
“There are some super players. There are fantastic players everywhere and it’s a wonderful award for whoever ends up winning it.”

What do we think?
Despite the negativity towards Unai Emery of late, the way he has developed Guendouzi is one of the few things the Spaniard should take credit for. The 20-year-old was entrusted with marshalling the Arsenal midfield as soon as he arrived in North London and, although he’s made errors along the way, the experience he has gained will no doubt prove invaluable.
In the former Lorient man, Arsenal have a huge talent on their hands. Guendouzi, who is valued at £40.5 million (Transfermarkt), has already played for the Gunners 64 times which is likely way beyond what he or even Unai Emery would have imagined when the deal was struck to bring him to London. The 49-year-old boss has lots to mull over during this international break but the Frenchman’s development is something he can be pleased by.
