According to the Daily Mail, Sunderland and Blackburn flop Jack Rodwell is on the verge of signing for AS Roma. Currently a free agent, all that is between the Englishman and a contract is his medical.
This news quickly caught the attention of these Sunderland supporters who, quite frankly, couldn’t believe what they were hearing. One fan questioned why the Italian giants would be interested in the player, while another suggested that if Rodwell could play for the Serie A side, then he could play for Sunderland.

Hahahah tell me about it. If Jack Rodwell can play for Roma, I think I deserve to be in the Sunderland squad

One fan suggests that the hate thrown at Rodwell from Sunderland fans is completely warranted. If you don’t believe him, just go and watch the ‘Sunderland ‘Til I Die’ documentary.
Another fan, however, suggests that they may have handled Rodwell wrong. He states that the player’s move to Roma suggests he is better than they might have originally thought when they let him go.
I can’t understand why there would be any goodwill towards Rodwell, after the way he conducted himself when he was at Sunderland, but each to their own.

Can Sunderland supporters realise they don’t know a lot about football. Rodwell is off to Roma. Honeyman diversion about. Ruiter champions league football etc #safc

What do we think?
Assuming the deal goes through, it could be an interesting story to follow, especially if the 28-year-old goes on to perform for them after his turbulent time at the Stadium of Light. Rodwell will be joining fellow Englishman Chris Smalling, who joined the team on loan in the summer. Whether the former England international will be able to get his career back on track in Italy remains to be seen, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if these Sunderland fans wanted to see him fail.
