Sheffield Wednesday’s rise up the Championship table in recent weeks has been in most part due to their superb defence and one man who continues to impress in that defence is 24-year-old Dominic Iorfa.

The Owls kept their seventh clean sheet of the season in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with fellow promotion hopefuls Leeds United. Garry Monk has opted to play Iorfa in his favoured centre-back position in recent games, with the former Wolves man predominantly used as a right-back since his transfer in January this year, and is reaping the rewards as a result.

Iorfa originally played in Southend’s academy before his move to Wolves and enjoyed a breakthrough season with the current Premier League side in their 2014/2015 campaign. The versatile defender featured 13 times for the England Under-21 side, so was clearly thought to have a lot of potential by Wolves, but former manager Steve Bruce was able to prize him away from Wolves for just £1.8 million.

The defender’s form has helped Sheffield Wednesday rise to fifth in the table, just three points behind table-topping West Brom and Wednesday fans will be hoping that November can be as fruitful as October; in which they lost just once and only conceded two goals.

Some of the best reactions to Iorfa’s recent form can be seen in the tweets from Sheffield Wednesday fans below.

These tweets clearly show that Sheffield Wednesday fans believe Iorfa to be one of their best signings in some time and will, of course, be hoping the young defender continues his recent form.

What do we think?

Iorfa has proved himself to be one of the best defenders in the Championship with his latest performances, receiving a 7.0 plus rating in each of his last three appearances. Iorfa is efficient at tackling and is solid in the air but is also very quick and good on the ball for a centre-back, which is becoming more and more important for a modern-day centre-back.
