A lot of Spurs fans were far from happy with the way their team set up at Anfield after scoring on Sunday, with several fans commenting that club captain Harry Kane was far too good to be playing in their current side after disappointing recent results.

Spurs took the lead through Kane after just 47 seconds at Anfield but eventually succumbed to the league leaders after goals from Jordan Henderson and Mohamed Salah. Pochettino’s side could have gone 2-0 up when Heung Min-Son hit the crossbar but struggled to create many chances against a dominant Liverpool side.

Only the inspired form of goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga kept the home side at bay in the first half and Harry Kane was provided with very little service after his first-minute goal, with the away side often wasting the little possession they had at Anfield. The England captain suggested after the game that Spurs “didn’t play [their] game” (Video from Football Daily) and that Pochettino’s side needed to be “braver” in their attacks against Liverpool.

This triggered a response from Spurs fans on Twitter, with many fans feeling as if Kane was outgrowing the rest of the squad. The 26-year-old has 10 goals in all competitions so far this season, which highlights his importance as the club’s second highest scorer only has five goals to his name.

Some of the reactions from Spurs fans to Harry Kane’s importance to the side after his Liverpool goal can be seen in the tweets below.

These tweets from Spurs fans seem to suggest that there is no doubt that Kane is Spurs’ best player, with some fans seemingly resigned to the club captain leaving if the club continues to struggle.

What do we think?

Harry Kane is a talisman at Spurs, having scored a very impressive 131 goals in the Premier League in just 191 Spurs appearances. However, Kane is an ambitious forward so surely won’t wait an age for a trophy to arrive, which could force him to leave the club if things don’t change. At 26-years-old, Kane still has a lot of football to play and several pundits, including Rio Ferdinand, believe that now is the right time for Kane to make the move away from Spurs.
