Tottenham Hotspur picked up their first win of the month on Tuesday night in the Champions League, but fans remain pessimistic ahead of their weekend tie against Liverpool.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men are 7th in the Premier League after their opening nine games and are yet to win on the road this season. Fans are, therefore perhaps rightly, not confident as they prepare to travel to Merseyside on Sunday, especially considering Liverpool haven’t lost at Anfield in the league since May 2017.

Despite their 5-0 triumph in midweek, fans of the Lilywhites have not responded well to their club’s Twitter status about the game, suggesting that as long as the players show some fight they will be happy. However, some fans took a more positive stance, arguing that the away side could be the team to inflict Liverpool’s first defeat of the season.

Spurs fans may be looking to get revenge after the Champions League final loss in May, with this being the first time the two clubs have played since meeting in Madrid. Recent matches between the two sides have generally gone the way of Klopp’s side, with Tottenham’s last win against the Reds coming in a 4-1 home win in October 2017.

Some of the best reactions from Spurs fans, both negative and positive, can be seen in the tweets below.

Interestingly, these tweets above from fans show that they are far from confident of a Spurs win at Anfield.

What do we think?

Both sides picked up emphatic Champions League wins in midweek so will be confident heading into Sunday’s game. Although Liverpool remain strong defensively, they have kept just two clean sheets so far this season, which suggests that there will be chances for Spurs to score. Harry Kane has five Premier League goals so far this season and has hit five goals in nine games against Liverpool in his career, but Spurs have won just one of those games. If Liverpool get the first goal in this game Spurs may crumble, but if the away side go in front it could be a very interesting tie.
