Rumours suggesting that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will leave the club after the north London derby on Sunday are “very strange”, according to Danny Mills.

TalkSPORT host Adrian Durham suggested earlier in the week that he had heard the Argentine would be walking away from Spurs after the clash, regardless of the result.

Pochettino then came out and claimed that the suggestion was “stupid”, as quoted by Football Insider.

And speaking to the same outlet, Sky Sports pundit Mills seemed baffled by the situation.

He said: “Incredible rumours that Pochettino is going to leave after the game, not sure where that’s all come from. Pochettino’s come out and said that’s ridiculous.

“It’s very strange for that to have come out and leak out and for Pochettino to come out and almost give the rumour a bit of credibility too.

“That’s a strange situation.”

What is going on at Spurs?

Honestly, at the current moment in time, who knows?

These rumours that Pochettino wants to leave imminently seem to have come out of nowhere, and you have to wonder whether Durham’s claims are legitimate or not.

Certainly, Pochettino seems intent on quashing the rumours, but you can’t help feeling that he has to present a united front in public.

Talks have supposedly been held between the Argentine and Daniel Levy to “clear the air”, as reported by The Sun, and if that is true then it is hard to see Pochettino packing his suitcase any time soon.

That being said, the fact that there have had to be any kind of reconciliatory discourse would suggest that things aren’t all hunky-dory behind the scenes.

Pochettino has recently come out and said that he has no bearing over the club’s transfer policy and that Daniel Levy should change his job title to coach rather than manager, as reported by the Guardian, and the ongoing debacle regarding Christian Eriksen could surely derail any harmony that he and Levy are trying to reestablish.

No manager in the world is going to be happy with the prospect of losing one of his best players, and the fact that Pochettino came out yesterday and suggested that his side should not be compared to their top six rivals because of the “financial restrictions” he is working under, as reported by the Telegraph, would hint at the fact that he knows there is only so far he can take this squad.

If he already feels he has reached that ceiling then he might well be away, but surely it won’t be anytime in the immediate future.
