Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to slam Connor Goldson for his performance against Celtic in Sunday’s Old Firm.

Steven Gerrard’s men were beaten 2-0 by the visiting Hoops at Ibrox, and many fans felt Goldson was at fault for the first goal.

The 26-year-old was sloppy in possession in the middle of the park and gave away the ball, ultimately leading to Odsonne Edouard being slipped through to open the scoring midway through the first half, and it’s fair to say that Gers fans weren’t too happy with the centre back.

Here are some of the best tweets from supporters.

If you’re going to make a mistake, don’t make it in the biggest game of the season, and don’t make it so that your side lose their 100% record to their bitterest rivals and closest title challengers.

There seems to be a general consensus amongst some fans that Goldson has been something of ticking time bomb for some time now, with his proclivity for playing out from the back not equalled by his footballing ability to do so.

That certainly seemed to be the case on Sunday, when everything he touched looked to be too lacklustre, and just half a yard wayward.

Shortly, before things descended into chaos and Jordan Jones got himself sent off for a ridiculous lunge on Moritz Bauer, Jonny Hayes added a second to put the game to bed, and this time Goldson was nowhere to be seen, still languishing in the Hoops’ half as they broke with pace and punished a disorganised Gers backline.

That’s not to say Goldson was at fault for both goals, but his mistake for the first led to the need for Gerrard’s men to pile forward in search of an equaliser, thus leaving them open at the back and prone to the counter attack.

When the defender signed for the Gers last summer, he was likened to Manchester City ace John Stones by one-time manager Micky Mellon, as reported by the Daily Record, but to play with that kind of self-assurance requires an ability and level of concentration that, based on this showing, Goldson simply does not have.
