Tottenham are “ready to attack” in their pursuit of Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to A Bola.

The Portuguese news outlet claims that Spurs have turned their attention to Fernandes, 24, after failing to agree a fee with Real Betis over Giovani Lo Celso.

It is understood that Portugal international Fernandes has a release clause in his deal at Sporting CP worth a whopping £88.5million while Manchester United, Manchester City and Atletico Madrid are all also interested in the attacking midfielder.

Good move for Tottenham?

Fernandes has been one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe this season after a truly sensational campaign with Sporting CP.

The former Sampdoria star was involved in 50 goals across all competitions in 2018/19, scoring 32 of his own and supplying a further 18 assists for his team-mates in 53 appearances.

If Tottenham need to find someone who can replace Christian Eriksen, then Fernandes is surely their man.

He can score goals, he can create goals and he can play in a central attacking midfield role or out on the left-wing, like Eriksen has done for most of the last year.

Tottenham would find it hard to sign a better player this summer than Fernandes.

Likely to happen?

Spurs will face a lot of competition in the race to sign Fernandes and Man United’s interest in the midfielder appears to be a lot more advanced than their own.

If Spurs struggled to agree a fee with Real Betis for Lo Celso, then they will surely struggle even more with Fernandes, who has a massive release clause.

He would be worth the money, but would Daniel Levy be willing to more than double the club’s current record spend?
