Rangers have tabled a contract offer to Charlton midfielder Joe Aribo in a bid to beat fierce rivals Celtic to his bargain capture this summer, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football news outlet claim that the Gers have made a move to try and lure Aribo to Ibrox over the numerous other sides seeking his capture, with the Addicks ace out of contract with the newly promoted Championship side.

It is stated the Rangers contract offer will see Aribo, 22, receive a hefty pay rise should he move north of the border and that they have moved early to try and trump their rivals, including Celtic to his capture.

The Glasgow sides know they could secure Aribo for a marginal compensation fee thanks to the cross border rules, with English sides having to pay a much higher amount were he to move.

Opinion

Aribo looks to be one of Rangers’ top targets this summer and you can understand why that might be the case after his impressive season in League One. Not only is his record, with nine goals and five assists to his name during their promotion winning campaign, going to get the Gers excited but the cost of bringing him to Glasgow, with a bargain compensation fee on the cards if they are successful, will also have the Gers’ ears well and truly pricked. The Light Blues know they need to make the most of these kind of opportunities, where a top quality talent is available for a fee within their reach, just as the likes of Celtic have done over the years. They will be desperately hoping that their early move will convince him that they are the club to move his career forward. As proven in recent years, Steven Gerrard is a real pull for players coming from England and he could yet again play his part.
