Celtic chief Peter Lawwell has seen an £8million asking price tabled in discussions with Toulouse over a move for giant defender Christopher Jullien this summer, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim on their website that the senior Hoops figure is in talks with the French side over taking the 6’5″ (source: Transfermarkt) powerhouse to Glasgow and that the seven figure fee is being demanded for a deal to take place.

However, it is stated that the Bhoys could see Jullien’s asking price hit eight figures with interest from both England and Germany for the 26-year-old defender.

Good move for Celtic?

The Hoops do need new defenders to join their ranks this summer and so it makes sense that they would look to add Jullien’s power and height to their back line.

They of course need new signings through the door sooner rather than later, the Champions League qualifiers on the horizon ahead of their return to training and so it seems as though they have got talks underway early.

That could work in their favour if Toulous are happy to sell up but the chances are the French side would rather trigger a transfer battle between rival suitors in order to get the best possible price for his sale.

If English sides do get involved, they could force Celtic out the running with their financial clout, the Bhoys simply unable to match their spending ability.

Likely to happen?

If Celtic are willing to pay the £8million asking price then they should put their offer in immediately to void others coming in and snatching him from under their nose.

The longer they wait the less likely they are to get him on board, leaving Lawwell and the rest of the Hoops board under pressure to make a snap decision.
