West Brom have missed out on manager target Rui Almeida, according to beIN Sports correspondent Tancredi Palmeri.
The reliable journalist claimed via his personal Twitter account on Sunday that Albion told Almeida to wait for an answer for them, but since then the 49-year-old has accepted the job at Caen, who were relegated from Ligue 1 last season.

Palmeri has previously reported that West Brom had held talks with Almeida, who made their final shortlist as they aimed to find a permanent successor to Darren Moore.
OPINION
West Brom fans won’t be losing any sleep over missing out on Almeida, who is nowhere near as good as some of the other candidates that the Black Country club has been looking at in the last few weeks. At the moment, it seems that most of the supporters would prefer to see Slaven Bilic in the hotseat at The Hawthorns, and for someone who has had success in charge of Croatia and West Ham, he is the standout candidate in comparison to Almeida. The Portuguese boss has only managed teams like Syria’s Under-23s, Red Star Belgrade, Bastia and Troyes. It’s hardly the glittering CV that would get West Brom fans excited and it would have been the most left-field hire to appoint the 49-year-old as their next boss. Luckily that does not seem like it will happen now and Almeida is set to stay in France with Caen, who will be one of the favourites for promotion to Ligue 1 next season.
