Tottenham are on the verge of signing Sporting CP midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to Record.

The Portuguese newspaper claimed via their website that Spurs are “very close” to signing the 24-year-old as they are ready to meet Sporting’s demands worth over £62.3million.

It is understood that Fernandes’ agent Miguel Pinho arrived in London on Thursday and held talks with Spurs.

Record adds that Spurs had considered Giovani Lo Celso as a replacement for Christian Eriksen in North London, but Real Betis’ demands led them to firm up their interest in Fernandes.

Good move for Tottenham?

Fernandes will be a superb signing for Spurs and it must be music to the ears of fans to here that the Portugal international is on the brink of signing for the Champions League runners-up.

Spurs need to sign some quality midfielders this summer with Eriksen expected to leave and after the form that Fernandes showed in green and white last season, it’s not a shock to see the Sporting ace eyed up by Mauricio Pochettino.

Across all competitions in 2018/19, Fernandes scored 32 goals and supplied 18 assists in 53 appearances, meaning that he was almost involved in a goal in each of his outings.

Spurs may need to move Eriksen on first but they need to get an agreement in principle to sign Fernandes as soon as they can.
