Tottenham have rejected the chance to sign former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko from Roma, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news website claims that Dzeko’s representatives have offered the 33-year-old to the North London club in a bid to seal a return to the Premier League.

However it is understood that Spurs do not believe the centre-forward represents good value for money, with Roma valuing him at £18million.

Football Insider adds that he is now more likely to join Inter Milan this summer with his three-season spell at the Stadio Olimpico coming to an end.

OPINION

It is definitely a good job that Spurs have rejected the chance to sign Dzeko because while he is still a good player, there’s no way that a 33-year-old is worth anything near what Roma are demanding for him. The Bosnia and Herzegovina international has had a decent season in Serie A, in which he scored 14 goals and supplied 11 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. However the chances of him repeating that success in the Premier League, in the shadow Harry Kane, is low. Dzeko does fit the mould of striker that Mauricio Pochettino likes to have as back up to Kane. Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente are both big bulky forwards, similar to Dzeko. If the 6ft 4 [transfermarkt] colossus was a lot cheaper than £18million then Spurs might have considered a move, but his wage demands are also likely to be high and it’s a good job that they have snubbed this offer.
