Tottenham are plotting to table a new bid for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso, according to the Daily Star.

The newspaper claims that Spurs failed with their opening offer worth up to £53million while Betis are not prepared to accept anything less than Lo Celso’s £88.9million release clause.

It is understood that Spurs are determined to sign the 23-year-old and have snubbed the chance to sign Sevilla ace Pablo Sarabia and Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler because they are so keen on snapping up the Argentina international.

Good move for Tottenham?

Spurs will surely have to sign a replacement for Christian Eriksen this summer and while it may be impossible to sign someone who is as good as the Denmark international, Lo Celso could eventually come close.

He was superb for Real Betis last season as he scored 16 goals and supplied six assists in 46 appearances across all competitions.

The central midfielder would definitely be a good signing for Spurs, but £88.9million is a lot of money and Daniel Levy will need to try and whittle that down if he wants to strike a decent deal with Betis.

Likely to happen?

According to Sky Sports, Lo Celso is keen on a switch to Tottenham this summer, which will certainly help Levy and Mauricio Pochettino when it comes to negotiations with both Betis and the player.

However Betis reportedly want to hold out until after Lo Celso plays for Argentina in the Copa America to see if that can spark a bidding war.

At the moment Spurs sure seem in pole position to sign the 23-year-old, but that could all change if he plays well at the Copa America.
