Tottenham have held talks with the agent of PSV midfielder Steven Bergwijn, according to Dutch journalist Rik Elfrink.

The Algemeen Dagblad reporter told Sky Sports that Spurs have bid £35.4million for the 21-year-old and while PSV deny there has been a offer tabled to them, a deal that sees the Netherlands international move on this summer is not a million miles away.

“Spurs are following him,” Elfrink said. “They have talked to his agent and it has been said that there has already been an offer of 40million euros [£35.4million].

“PSV deny that, but a transfer is probably not far off.

“Bergwijn is an incredible talent but he still has a lot of potential to improve, especially in front of goal because sometimes he still loses his nerve.

“But this guy is really, really strong. If you look at his legs, you can see his muscles. I think it would be normal for him to make transfer this summer after the Nations League.”

Bergwijn is likely to line up for the Netherlands on Thursday night when they take on England in the Nations League semi-finals in Portugal.

Good move for Tottenham?

Bergwijn has been one of the best players in the Eredivise this season, scoring 15 goals and supplying 13 assists in 41 appearances across all competitions for PSV.

The five-times Dutch international has great pace, an eye for goal and is able to provide chances for his team-mates, so what is not to like about the left-sided midfielder?

He is also young at just 21-years-of-age and could add some serious strength in depth to Mauricio Pochettino’s options on the wings.

Tottenham would definitely be striking a good deal if they are able to lure Bergwijn to North London this summer in what is bound to be a massive transfer window for young Dutch players.

Likely to happen?

Elfrink suggests that a move for Bergwijn is certainly on the cards this summer, so Tottenham do appear to have a good chance of signing up the Amsterdam-born player.

Spurs will surely have a big summer and as Bergwijn fits the mould of player that Pochettino likes to have, he is certainly someone who could be playing for the North London club next season.
