Forgotten Newcastle United midfielder Henri Saivet is set to return to training with the Magpies this summer after seeing a proposed permanent move to loan side Bursaspor fail to come off, according to the Chronicle.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 24-cap Senegal star, who last played for the Magpies 18 months ago in January 2018, has seen the Turkish outfit choose not to take up the option to sign him permanently after his temporary spell at the club, which ended with relegation from the Super Lig.

It is stated that Saivet, who has another two years on his contract at St James’ Park, has been told to return to training with the club at the start of July.

Opinion

Will Saivet ever get a break? His career has gone well and truly down the pan of late and he must be ruing the day he decided to move to Newcastle United. Unwanted on Tyneside, he cannot seem to find anywhere to call home and his move to Turkey, ending in his loan side suffering relegation, will not have done his confidence any good whatsoever. Does he stand a chance of impressing Rafael Benitez – or whoever might be manager come the end of the month- when he does come back? It seems highly unlikely, even though the Spaniard did shockingly call upon him all the way back in January 2018. It was a case of needs must back then and you would imagine Benitez will make sure to avoid a similar situation any time soon. Saivet’s future clearly does not lie at Newcastle but who is going to take him on after failing to impress once again? Does another loan spell lie in wait?
