Rangers must swoop for Gallacher

They say in life it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.

Rarely is that as true as it is in professional football. If there was ever a career that lent itself to mates giving each other employment and leg-ups at every turn, it’s the beautiful game.

Just ask Harry Redknapp and Niko Krancjar.

Not that there’s anything wrong with getting an advantage where you can. Frank Lampard stuffed his Derby County side full of the best young talents that Chelsea has to offer and went within 90 minutes of promotion to the Premier League this term.

We saw signs of something similar at Ibrox this season too, albeit on a much smaller scale.

Ryan Kent was drafted in and made an immediate impact at Rangers, endearing himself so thoroughly with the Scottish game that he was named young player of the year.

Whether or not he will be allowed to return to the Gers next season is still a matter of some uncertainty, but regardless of the 22-year-old’s future, this could be just the tip of the iceberg.

You will not find a player as universally adored anywhere as Gerrard is in Liverpool. He is a hero, a living idol.

And so, when he comes knocking for loan talent, how could the Reds say no?

One position that the Gers will desperately need to strengthen this summer is at left-back, and the Daily Record thinks it has the ideal solution.

19-year-old Tony Gallacher has been making waves for Liverpool’s youth sides since he secured a dream move from Falkirk, and is surely on the cusp of a loan away to earn some first team experience.

Why not let him go to Rangers? He has shedloads of potential, is a Scottish lad anyway, and would be learning under a manager who knows exactly what it takes to become a legend at Anfield.

If you factor in how badly the Gers need a new full-back, this makes perfect sense.

Gerrard should call in a favour and swoop for his man.
