Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to have talks with Daniel Levy once the Champions League final pain has subsided, according to the Evening Standard

The newspaper claim that the Argentine will wait for the pain of Saturday’s Champions League final defeat to Liverpool to cool off before meeting with the Spurs board to discuss the future of the club.

After guiding the north London club to the final, where they had the chance to win their first ever Champions League trophy, Pochettino was left heart broken after goals from Mo Salah and Divock Origi sent Liverpool to an impressive 2-0 win in Madrid.

The Evening Standard also claim that the manager has promised to sit down with Levy after the final to map out the club’s “next chapter”, however he will be taking a few days off before starting talks with the chairman.

OPINION

There is no doubt that Pochettino is the right man for the job with Spurs, however a cool-off period is definitely needed after what can only be described as a truly heartbreaking experience for fans and staff of the club alike. Spurs fans will be hoping that there will be some positive news coming out of the talks when they finally happen, and it seems likely that Pochettino will be eager to stay in north London after failing to win the Champions League, as there is no doubt unfinished business between the two parties, as the Argentine is yet to have won a trophy with the club since his arrival. It would be a huge surprise if Pochettino were to offer some kind of ultimatum regarding his future, or show any sign of leaving the club, however the heartbreak of the Champions League may have had more of an effect on the head coach than it first seemed.
