Kilmarnock striker Kris Boyd is excited to see how Jordan Jones performs at Rangers.

Jones is to join up with his new teammates at Ibrox at the start of next month, having agreed a pre-contract agreement in January to move from Kilmarnock.

Speaking to the Sunday Post, Boyd said that Jones has all the attributes to turn into a great signing for Rangers.

“Jordan is a very good player. He operates down the left-hand side but is right-footed, so when he cuts inside, the whole goal opens up. But he is equally as comfortable going down the outside,” the 35-year-old Sky Sports pundit said.

“Being able to do both in such good measure makes him a nightmare for defenders. He has the ability and mentality to cope with playing for Rangers, I’ve no doubt about that.

“What he does need to improve on, however, is his goals return. He knows that himself, and he should be looking to get into double figures at Ibrox because there will be plenty of goalscoring opportunities for him.”

OPINION

Jones will certainly be an interesting signing for Rangers, and there is every chance he could prove the exciting signing that Boyd thinks he could be. He put in several impressive performances for Kilmarnock last season to help them achieve a third-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership, appearing 28 times in that competition overall. He also made five appearances in the Scottish League Cup and two in the Scottish Cup, meaning he has not just been key in league action but in domestic competitions too. However, Boyd is right when he says that Jones must improve his goalscoring record at Rangers. The left midfielder, who can also operate as a winger, only managed to score four goals and register four assists in his 28 league appearances last term, while he failed to provide any further goal contributions in the other competitions he played in. That is certainly one target for Jones to look towards.
