Everton are planning to hand a “serious deal” to youth striker Lewis Dobbin, according to reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

The 16-year-old has been attracting a fair amount of attention for the Toffees’ youth sides this season, making seven appearances for the U18s, scoring once and assisting four more.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Nixon said: “Everton. Giving serious deal to young striker Dobbin who is causing a stir at youth level.”

OPINION

This is a smart move from Everton. Dobbin is clearly a big talent, and one who could go on to have a very big future at the club. One goal in seven matches only really tells half the story, and the reality is that he looks to be a very bright prospect indeed. That kind of talent will always attract attention, and it makes sense to get the teenager tied down to a new deal now while there is relatively little interest in him. The fact that he is playing two years above his actual age group is a good sign, especially for a striker, and the Blues will be hoping that with the right kind of backing he can enjoy a meteoric rise through the ranks at Goodison Park. The first step to ensuring that hope comes to fruition is to make sure that Dobbin signs on the dotted line.
