Leeds United star Kemar Roofe is set to demand a new four-year deal worth £30,000-a-week when crunch talks over his future at Elland Road finally kick off, according to Football Insider.

The reliable news outlet claims that Roofe, 26, will enter discussions about his future soon, and in those discussions he will want to see his pay brought up to a level nearer to what Patrick Bamford and Kiko Casilla are currently earning each week.

Roofe’s existing agreement expires at the end of next season, so Leeds will either have to wrap up new terms or offload the attacker in one of the next two transfer windows to avoid losing him on a free next year.

OPINION

Roofe has every right to demand £30,000-a-week. The former West Brom attacker is one of the most important players at Elland Road and he finished as the Whites’ top goalscorer this season by netting 15 times in 34 appearances across all competitions. He has done more in the club’s promotion bid than Patrick Bamford, with the two forward’s both suffering injury issues over the course of the campaign. Roofe knows that the ball is in his court over these talks because if Leeds fail to agree a deal with him then they will end up losing the 26-year-old either this summer, or at some point next year, potentially on a free. Roofe is a good player and Marcelo Bielsa needs to keep hold of him for next season. However if terms cannot be agreed then Leeds should look to cash in before his transfer value starts to deteriorate after the summer window closes.
