Wolves will surely lose the reported race to sign Atletico Madrid defender Filipe Luis as how can they be expected to beat Barcelona to his services.

Goal Brazil previously reported in May that Nuno Espirito Santo’s team had joined Paris St Germain and Flamengo in chasing the Brazilian flyer with his Atletico Madrid contract set to run out in the summer.

While the outlet made it clear that Atletico Madrid wanted to keep Luis, which was bad enough for Wolves’ hopes of signing him, the latest update makes it seem clear the 33-year-old isn’t heading to the Molineux anytime soon.

Goal reported on Saturday that Barcelona would give Luis a chance to join them as they’re seeking cover for first-choice left-back Jordi Alba.

The football website even stated that Luis, who ideally wants to stay at Madrid despite having received offers from Wolves, PSG and Flamengo, may be tempted to leave Atletico to play with the likes of Lionel Messi & co before he hangs up his boots.

Given that this report reveals that the experienced defender wants to stay at Madrid first and foremost, with them keen to keep him too, and that his latest option is Barcelona; surely Wolves’ offer is bound to fail.

Barcelona are too tough to compete with for Santo’s side after all.

Not only would Luis get the chance to play with living legends of the game such as Messi if he joined Barca, he wouldn’t have to pack his bags and leave Spain.

This would surely be the more appealing option as the defender more than likely would prefer not to uproot his life.

While some may argue he may fancy a new challenge, playing for Wolves wouldn’t necessarily offer him that.

Luis previously played in England with Chelsea and won the Premier League as well as the League Cup during his time.

So what is there for him to do at Wolves? He has England’s main title among his collection of winner’s medals after all.

Therefore when you consider all this, Wolves will surely lose the race for Luis’ services now, especially as Barcelona have joined the race.
