Aston Villa have triggered a clause which will allow them to sign Wolves defender Kortney Hause on a permanent deal, according to Telegraph journalist John Percy.

Hause, 23, starred in the second half of last season when on loan at Villa Park, making 11 Championship appearances as Dean Smith’s side secured a return to the Premier League.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Percy claimed that Villa have taken up the option of sign the defender on a permanent move – which was contained in the loan deal – and which will cost around £3million.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Definitely. Having only joined in January, Hause had a great impact at Villa Park and even chipped in with a goal. He would definitely be able to make an impact in the Premier League and there is no doubt that he would thrive with a step up. And having released nine players in just over a week following their Championship play-off final victory over Derby County that Villa are now intent to redress the balance. The club confirmed the signing of Jota from rivals Birmingham City on a two-year-deal on Wednesday, and Hause would be their second signing of the summer. And it would be a very shrewd one for just £3million, if the club can indeed get him for that.

Likely to happen?

If this report from Percy is true, there is a real chance. It would mean that all that needs to be done now for the move to go ahead is for terms to be agreed with the player. That should be fairly easy, since Hause has done very well in the short time he has been with Smith’s side and will likely want to continue with the club. What’s more, that feeling is likely to be reciprocated by Villa, who will definitely believe in the player’s ability to progress.
